ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Sunrays Compost is the brainchild of Dr Ayi Vaman N Acharya, a prominent environmentalist, industrialist and innovator. He is a graduate of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli. He is a former Chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). He was bestowed the Kempegowda award for his contribution to the field of solid waste management.
Dr. Acharya took up Municipal waste handling – segregation, processing and disposal- as an enterprise in Bangalore. He has successfully implemented innovative ways for non-hazardous industrial waste handling techniques.
As an environmentalist, he played an active role in environmental movements such as “Save Western Ghats”, “Movement against Sharavati tailrace”, “Vrukshlaksha Andolana” (planting million trees) etc. He worked with the Government of Maharashtra in tribal areas; understood man-nature conflicts; worked extensively on community health issues of tribal classes.
He is the founder trustee and present chairman of Samagra Vikas, an NGO working in the field of Biofuels, rural employment and alternative energies. He has organised many seminars and field trials on Biofuels.
He is also a prolific public speaker and has participated in over 300 public interactions in various platforms on wide range of subjects.
